Ps3 as media center extender with windows 7
Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Ok, I have seen a few quesitons on threads with the PS3 not sharing with vista. Is it because that the PS3 does not have an option to log into the homegroup yet? This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. Link or some other such bullshit. Their habit of using iconic port labeling saved much potential confusion, at least the symbol was consistent.
It sat there on the PS2 mocking me for years and never came to anything, finally dropping off altogether in the slim model. You could do that ridiculously niche Gran Turismo networking trick and that was it more or less.
So annoying. I swear they would just toss ports in to their designs just in case they wanted to fuck with it later. Case in point, PSP. Has an IR port. What's it for? Manual says, "this is the IR port.
That's it. No idea. Sorry for the rant. This bugs me. The PS3 is a departure in this philosophy in many ways but almost too much hey, about that IR port That sounds like fun. The G4 is a great processor.
It may be slow today, but running altivec code, it's still a champ for me. It may not be very fast, but it's a workhorse alright. Except it seems to be extinct I don't want WiFi and I certainly don't need a media card reader, just want the core system so I can upgrade the hard drive. Too bad they don't make them anymore I went to a GameStop here in town today and the chick behind the counter said they have 18 60Gb PS3s, haven't had a 20Gb since launch.
PS3's just aren't selling I'd say it's not really that mature yet on the Playstation 3. So it's still a bit up in the air. It's a wonder no one has made an extender box that is upgradeable, plays nearly everything, has an usable interface and connects to a local network. I'd buy one immediately without a second thought.
I think you can order one from Sony? The 20GB still exists - supposedly - but retail stores aren't ordering them. Try SonyStyle or whatever the main retail site is. Does seem odd though. I asked a couple sales goons and they had no idea, so I'm not sure anyone but Sony knows why the 20GB ones are so rare.
Or get a media center extender, those display HD too. Any that can display x or hd xvid? If you intend to use multiple extenders, you'll want a muscular hardware platform with a fast CPU and plenty of memory.
Streaming high-definition videos and recorded TV between a PC and an extender is a demanding task. A wired connection can usually provide sufficient bandwidth, but wireless connections can be problematic, especially if multiple computers are competing for the same bandwidth. To test and, if necessary, tune your network performance, open the Settings page and select Extender.
This option shows a list of all extenders that have been configured to work with your device. With the extender turned on and connected to the network, you should see a menu like the one shown here when you select it from the list.
You can also run this test from the extender itself; from the Start menu, choose Tasks and look for the Tune Network option.
Make sure that nothing is playing on the extender and then choose Tune Network to begin a brief performance test. At the end of the test, you'll get a summary that tells you whether your network performance is acceptable or you need to perform some tuning. One option that confuses extender owners, at least initially, is how the Media Library is built.
I'd like to use it as an extender so I could watch TV in the kitchen while I make dinner, or in the garage, anywhere my network can reach bandwidth allowing of course. It beats having the cable company drill a gazilion holes in my walls My Vista desktop see's every other Vista machine in the house.
It see's my sons Vista ultimate media center, and my daughters XP media center. I get a little message saying a new media PC has shown up I have not gotten that message with this windows 7 machine. They are all in the same workgroup. Windows 7 can see the Vista box.
I can stream music from it, in windows player. I can see my recorded TV shows in Windows player but I can't play them. I suspect thats a DRM issue perhaps??? Win 7 Media center also wont allow me to join my wireless network using the wizzard in meda center. I'm on the network, it passes the internet connection test, but when I try to join the network I am unsuccessfull. It see's my network, asks for the password, I put it in, I accept the UCA prompt and it then tells me the password is incorrect.
It's the correct password. I really like Windows 7. I am getting better performance out of this hardware than when it runs Vista. Hopefully I can get this to work. I totally agree with you. Why will Microsoft not allow the Media Center on other computers on the network to act as extenders? Pppl don't want Media Center servers and cards in every room. We want one Media Center server and everything else to act as an extender without carrying stupid external cards.
Microsoft would only notice the importance of this function after they released it, as it would really kick on in a big way Hi - this is one of the most requested features for Media Center since it came out 7 yrs ago - also referred to 'Softsled' extender software that runs on another pc rather than an official 'media center extender' device - and the Media Center team I think are more than aware of the demand for that feature.
Just as long as you don't want live tv streaming - you can do pretty much everything else you'd expect on an extender via MC running locally ie. The work around for LiveTV is pretty good, but still not the extender experience I am after. Hopefully someone from the Softsled project will be able to make this a reality for us if Microsoft don't, as you have done with the EPG :.
